Travelling With No Destination In Mind! My 4 TOP TIPS

I started travelling 4months ago with no destination in mind, and it was refreshing to say the least, no deadlines, no itinerary and most important of all, no return date in mind.

I did have clients to see along the way, yet this was only a temporary stop in this journey, the dates to see them was set, yet the in between was where the magic was held. How, do you ask? The time of stopping! Yes stopping, slowing down and taking that long awaited breath of Ahhhh, this helps to ground in to yourself and pause and just to be.

Yes I did start out with one of the apps Wikicamps AU, this then gave me the luxury of adding or deleting places along the way, yet it wasn't my be all and end all of the journey towards a destination unknown. I really let my Heart, My Soul be my guiding compass in the forward momentum of travelling, stopping, sightseeing and staying in overnight camps.

You probably are thinking by now, you're a mad bugger for not having a destination in mind!

All the questions going through your head right now, what about safety, what about your family, fuel, food, entertainment, sleeping, etc....

Lets start with safety

  1. Always stay in parking bays with trucks. Stay with others, even if it is only 1 other in the camp ground with you. This provides safety and security whilst travelling. I stayed at 24hr rest areas that provided toilets, as these are very popular with other travellers and you can have great conversations, especially on your own.

Family

  1. I gave my family approximate times as to when I would be in a town and how long I would be staying for. I also shared with family and friends my wikicamps itinerary, this also lets them keep track of you when out of phone range. Also for last known location if anything happens.

Food and water

  1. Only buy what you need. Do not over buy for food and water, if you do not intend staying off grid for long periods of time. I always had my drinking water and dishes water on hand, yet only purchased food for a few days at a time, as I wasn't going off grid, as food does spoil quite often, especially fruits and veggies.

Equipment

  1. When purchasing your equipment, there are things to consider:

How big will your fridge need to be? Do you need a large fridge due to being off grid and self sufficient or will you only be on the road and frequently visiting towns where you can restock and resupply?

Battery! What are your needs when choosing a battery for your trip! Will you be having it running off solar panels, if so which ones, a solar blanket to charge the battery or a more permeant solution, fixed panels perhaps? Or maybe plugged into a cigarette lighter just to boost the battery life while driving (long distance is very good, just not efficient for short distances). These are very important factors when having anything electrical along for the journey. This will determine the battery set up you will require and the charging efficiency during the day.

At the end of the day it is always a trial and error situation, you never know what you will need to take with you until you have had your holiday and can iron out the bugs in the system and do things differently on your next trip.

Happy travels and follow your heart and soul whilst travelling, you will discover a whole new world of opportunities, when you get out of your own way.
